Before you start an accessibility project

Does the European Accessibility Act apply to my company?

If you sell to consumers online in the EU, almost certainly. Since 28 June 2025 the Act has covered e-commerce, consumer banking, passenger transport, telecoms and e-books, wherever the company is registered. The main exception is for microenterprises providing services: fewer than ten people, and no more than €2 million in annual turnover or balance sheet total. Selling only to businesses takes you out of scope too, but a line in your terms doesn't make you B2B if the checkout lets anyone through.

Who enforces accessibility law in Poland, and what are the fines?

It depends on the sector. Under the Act of 26 April 2024, e-commerce answers to the Minister of Digital Affairs, retail banking to the Financial Ombudsman, and telecoms and e-books to the President of UKE. The President of PFRON coordinates the whole system and can run controls of its own. A fine can reach ten times the average monthly salary, capped at 10% of the previous year's turnover (art. 73). An authority that finds a service non-compliant calls for corrective action and allows at most 120 days to show it done (art. 62).

Do we need an audit, training or remediation support?

Start from the question you need answered. An audit tells you what is broken, with every issue located and a fix recommended. Remediation support helps your developers build those fixes in your own stack. Training stops your team adding the same kinds of issue in the next release. The three combine: a training built around what the audit found, or remediation support while your developers work through the report.

Can an accessibility widget make our site compliant?

No. An overlay widget runs on top of your markup, so it can't fix a keyboard trap, a broken heading order, or a button whose label a screen reader never reads. The European Disability Forum and IAAP state that overlays do not make a website accessible or compliant with European accessibility legislation, and the FTC fined one overlay vendor $1 million over claims that its AI made websites WCAG compliant.
